SIDNEY-SHELBY COUNTY CHAMBER FOUNDATION
The Sidney-Shelby County Chamber of Commerce sponsors a Foundation that provides funds to Chamber member schools and organizations serving the youth of Shelby County. Funded by donations from its membership, the intended purpose of these grants is to support programs that will enrich the educational experience of Shelby County children thereby better preparing them to enter the workplace of our members.
Each year in the September through mid-October time frame, Chamber member organizations are invited to submit grant applications for consideration by Chamber Foundation volunteers. Grant decisions by this panel are then communicated to grant recipients by the end of December and funded by the end of January.

SHELBY COUNTY SCHOOLS PROFILE
Shelby County contains eight public school districts, two parochial schools, a private school, and a school for students who are mentally retarded and developmentally disabled.
Shelby County schools offer a progressive and personal education program to meet the varied needs of today's students. Low pupil-teacher ratios and modern facilities make going to school a rewarding, enjoyable experience. The educational philosophy here has never strayed from the old and very basic goal to give young people the skills they need to become productive citizens.
Students may be active in theater, music, sports, leadership clubs and academic societies during their school years. Locally sponsored scholarships help send many graduates on to post-secondary education institutions.
UPPER VALLEY CAREER CENTER
During their junior and senior years, students have the opportunity to attend the Upper Valley Joint Career Center in Piqua. The school serves 14 school districts in Shelby and Miami County and provides practical, hands-on training to prepare young people for specific jobs upon graduation.
Graduates of the school have become a valuable human resource for the businesses and industries in the Sidney/Shelby County area. The Small Business Resource Center affiliated with the Career Center offers programs for adults including year-round and part-time courses for people interested in learning new skills or upgrading old ones. Adults may enroll in courses such as licensed practical nursing, welding, and small business management planning and analysis.
